Markha Valley Trek is a delight for the trekkers and showcases the barre land of Ladakh in some of the most charming ways. You get a chance to rise over two high-altitde passes (15,000 ft.) - Ganda La & Kongmaru La, you get to cross several small streams and the view of the rolling plains with mighty mountains around is simply splendid.

You'll witness the culturally unique and rich villages of Ladakh with Markha village being the most important one. Markha village is laced with willow groves and leaves you awe-struck with barren dusty mountains in the background. You stay at homes with the locals and are always in connect to the true authentic culture and people of the region. It also takes you inside the Hemis National Park and presents an opportunity to interact with the nomadic population of the region. Crazy Peaks expects you to carry your personal luggage on your own, if you don’t want to carry your backpack so you can give it to porter, but you have to inform us in advance and have to pay Rs. 700/- extra per day per bag.

Cancellation Policy:

Up to 30 Days:- 90% of Trek/adventure program cost will be refunded.

Between 21 - 30 Days:- 60% of Trek/adventure program cost will be refunded.

Between 20 - 11 Days:- 30% of Trek/adventure program cost will be refunded.

Less than 10 Days:- No refund.

Rescheduling Policy:

Up to 10 Days:- 30% of Trek/adventure program cost will be charged.

Less than 10 Days:- No rescheduling allowed.

Other Terms:

Any additional costs due to weather / unforeseen situations, will have to be borne by the traveller.

Our team reserves the right to change the plan in case there is danger involved for the group or whenever the trek leader deem it necessary.

Final word of the trek leaders will have to followed by all the members.

No show and trek changes/cancellation due to bad weather or natural calamity will be non-refundable.

Day No: 1
LEH ARRIVAL AND REST: In the morning, arrive at the Leh Airport and get transferred to your hotel in Leh. Check-into your rooms, meet with our team and follow the instructions to get acclimatized to the high altitude of 3500m. This day is very important for the coming trek.

Day No: 2
DRIVE FROM LEH VIA SPITUK TO ZINGCHAN VILLAGE & TREK TO YURUTSE (5/6 hrs): An early start is imperative for the Markha Valley Trek as there is no shade along the south banks of the Indus River until you enter the Zinchen Gorge. We will depart for Zingchen village from Leh by jeeps. After reaching Spituk, we continue our drive into the Hemis National Park. From Zingchen village we trek to Yurutse. The trail runs along a stream flowing through a gorge. This trail leads to Rumbak from Zinchen village. It takes about 3-4 hrs to reach Rumbak. About half hour before the village of Rumbak, there is a parachute tent as a landmark. From there, we head towards right to reach Yurutse. Take the small wooden bridge across the stream which leads to the valley. A short climb gets you to the Yurutse village.

Day No: 3
YURUTSE (13,520ft) TO SKIU (11,160ft) via GAND LA (15,748ft) [25 km (approx.) / 7-8 hours] : Today us a difficult day with long distances We start early. Initially, it’s a 1 hour gradual ascent towards Ganda La Basecamp. The next part from Ganda La basecamp to Ganda La pass is a steep climb of 2-3 hours. The descent from the Ganda La Pass is steep in the beginning. The rest of the descent is a gradual walk. Once in the valley, there are wide open fields. About 3 hours of further trek gets you to Shingo village. From Shingo village, follow the stream Shingri Nala. It’s a long and trek downhill on a rocky terrain. Skiu is situated at the confluence of Shingri Nala and Markha river. Its takes about 3-4 hours to reach Skiu. There is a beautiful monastery in Skiu. Do not miss the amazing sunset by the Markha river. Overnight at Skiu.

Day No: 4
SKIU (11,160ft) TO MARKHA (12,370ft) [20 kms / 6-7 hours] : This is another long day for trekking and we are into the Markha Valley. The trail goes along the Markha river and is well marked. In some places you find the directions marked by Bharal (Blue Sheep) horns. You will cross small settlements of Narding, Zara and Chalak. Beyond Chalak, you see green barley fields, colorful birds and huge mounds of Bharal horns. Just before the Markha village there is a river crossing. The water level starts to go up later in the afternoon when the sun hits the glacier. See that you hit the river crossing by early afternoon by 2 - 3 pm. From the crossing it takes half an hour to reach the beautiful village of Markha. We stay with a family in Markha in their homestay.

Day No: 5
MARKHA TO HANKAR [11 kms / 5-6 hours] : Today is a moderate day for trekking. We follow the trail from Markha village alongside Markha River, remaining on the right hand side. After 2 kms. we reach the intersection where a path from Zanskar meets up. We will do two river crossings along our way. After the second crossing it is a 2 hour trek up to village Umlung. Look out for the Umlung Gompa and cross over from its base to reach Umlung. You can get a breathtaking view of Mt. Kang Yatse (6400m.) as we climb up towards Tacha and Hankar. After 2 hours, we reach an old village named Hankar. Stay at Hankar.

Day No: 6
HANKAR TO NIMALING [8 Kms. / 5 hours] : Easy 7-8 kms. trek today. About 20 minutes from Hankar, the trail splits into two. One going to Thochuntse and the second to Zalung karpo La. Follow the trail going along the tributary takes and it takes you to Thochuntse which is another 1 km ahead. 15 minutes from the Thotchuntse, the trail forks again. Take the trail to the left. After an hour’s climb, the terrain is smoother. The climb becomes gradual. One and a half hours into the climb, brings you to a pond, followed by a long walk on meadow that brings you to Nimaling. You will see gushing streams on your left with a glacier behind the Kang Yatse and to the right is the Kang Yatse peak. Overnight at Nimaling.

Day No: 7
NIMALING TO CHUSKIRMO/CHOGDO via KONGMARU LA (5150m) [15 kms. / 6-7 hours] : The climb from Nimaling to to Kongmaru la is difficult and steep. It is situated over 5000m which makes the air very thin. This 2-3 hours long climb is well marked by Buddhist Prayer flags. From Kongmaru La, there is about 500m. of steep descent and after that the trail follows the meandering stream through a narrow gorge. One has to cross the stream at multiple places. There are ways to avoid the stream crossing if you are prepared to climb the trails. There is steep downhill hike till Chuskirmo.

Day No: 8
CHUSIKIRMO / CHOGDO TO SHANG SUMDO TREK & DRIVE TO LEH VIA HEMIS : The trek from Chuikirmo to Sumdo is a river bed walk. Once we reach Sumdo, we get a motorable road till the highway which is about 10 kms. away. Then we drive via Hemis to Leh. Check into your hotel. Overnight at Leh.

Day No: 9
DEPARTURE : After breakfast, get transferred to the airport for the return journey back to home with some wonderful memories.
