BIRDING AT PONG DAM

The tour is ideally tailored for bird lovers and wildlife photographers while being outdoors. Pong Bird Sanctuary in Kangra district is a well-known birding destination, explore this virgin destination with a splendid view of the Dhauladhar Mountains. The tour is pleasing blend of nativity, heritage and rainbow-ecology of Himalayan cultures which makes the most secure habitat for a variety of colourful and shy birds in the hills.

Our tour starts with a visit to ‘Pong Bird Sanctuary’, nestled in the sylvan surroundings of the Kangra valleyon the Beas River, the sprawling Pong wetland has emerged as a major habitat for migratory birds in the country as also an attractionfor bird watchers. Wetland popularly known as Ramsar site has been recognized Internationally as one of the finest and largest wetlands of North India situated in the Dhauladhar mountain ranges of Himachal Pradesh. Known as an outstanding paradise for bird watchers, the wetland has rich bio-diversity with meagre forests round the Pong Wetland having several tree species which serve as edible fruits for the migratory birds. Keeping in view the natural beauty of the wetland, the area has been developed as National wetland and has been included in the list of Internationally known wetlands.

Cancellation Policy:
Up to 30 Days: 75% of trip cost will be refunded.
Between 21 - 30 Days: 50% of trip cost will be refunded.
Between 20 - 11 Days: 25% of trip cost will be refunded.
Less than 10 Days: No refund.

Day No: 1
Pathankot to Guler Camp ; Transfer to Guler Birding Camp at Guler village and having the breakfast and after Birding. This is a fully serviced camping site in to the Fort of Guler Dynasty. Passing through Nagrota Surian, Nandpur and Haripur lake site our birding day will start for lunch break we will again provide the packed lunch or with local host family. Evening back to camp for dinner around campfire. Note: Guler is the origin place of Kangra painting which can be explored also a Toy Train ride, horse ride or cycling around the lake side can be clubbed in this trip.

Day No: 2
Haripur - Guler Camp ; Early morning before breakfast birding to Pong wetland and Bhatoli Fukorian Village and Lake side. After breakfast, we will go Bird watching near the area of Guler and Haripur.Packed lunch will be served. Overnight and Dinner at the Camp.

Day No: 3
Haripur - Guler Camp to Dhameta Village ; Post breakfast Drive to Dhameta Village (3 hrs). Bird watching at Pong Lake. This reservoirs or lake is well known Bird sanctuary and one of the 25 international wet land sites declared in India by Ramsar convention. Then take a boat ride and get close to the birds – waterfowl and heronries. The 2 day birding at Pong Lake can result in check listing 150-200 avian species. You have a great chance to sight – Pheasant-tailed Jacana and Bronzed-winged Jacana, Brown Crake and Baillon’s, Ruddy-breasted Crake, Siberian Rubythroat and Blue Throat, Long-tailed and Bay- backed Shrikes, Common grey Hornbill, Black Bittern, Orange-headed Thrush, Syke’s, Yellow-browed Warbler, Red Avadavat, Silverbill, Rufous-tailed Lark . The Sanctuary has the finest wetlands and scub that constitutes excellent feeing grounds and habitat for birds in India. Night at camp / hotel / lodge.

Day No: 4
Dhameta Village to Pathankot Drop ; Sunrise Pong Lake Bird Sanctaury visit in the morning. Post that come back for breakfast. Have a session of photo and experience exchange. Post lunch, check out and drop at Pathankot Bus / Railway Station.
