In a nutshell

60 km from Shillong one finds the beautiful sub divisional town of Cherrapunji in the East Khasi Hills district of the Indian State of Meghalaya. It is the wettest place in the world after Mawsynram. It is the traditional capital of a hima known as Sohra because of which the place was earlier called Sohra and Churra by the British. Then the name was later changed to Cherrapunji which means the “land of oranges”. Cherrapunji attracts a number of tourists throughout the year because of its serene atmosphere, pleasant climate and ofcourse its living bridges which date back to almost 500 years.

How to Reach:

Air:The closest airport to Charrapunji is in Shillong but it only gets flights from Kolkata . So it is more convenient to Travel upto Guwahati (181km from Cherrapungi) and then travel to Cherrapungi by road.

Rail: Guwahati is the nearest railhead to Cherrapunji,which is in turn connected to  various parts of the country.

Road: By road you can easily reach Cherrapunji from Guwahati (147 km),Aizwal (435 km), Imphal (589 km) and Agartarla (500 km).
